After a long search in deciding what mattress I wanted to buy I decided on the Shire Eco Sound mattress after coming across it in a showroom locally. A small double mattress is an appropriate size if a traditional double mattress takes too much space in a small bedroom. A small double is a bit smaller than a double mattress but still large enough for two people to comfortably sleep on.

 

When choosing a new mattress, bear in mind that mattress sizes in the UK remain the same whichever manufacturer makes the mattress. This is sometimes not the case for divans and besteads but always the case for mattresses. The industry standard for a small double mattress is 120cm x 190cm, which is 4’ by 6' 3". European and North American sizes for small double mattresses can differ so be aware of this if you have imported your bed.

 

While mattress sizes are standardised in the UK bed industry, the depth of a small double mattress will depend on the structure and the fillings within the mattress.
